For BALCA, it began with the cry of a child and the fear of a parent who did not know what was wrong. A diagnosis of biliary atresia came late, after many hospital visits, unanswered questions, and sleepless nights. The journey was lonely, confusing, and overwhelming.
Out of that pain, a purpose was born. Parents who once felt helpless decided no other family should ever walk this road alone. That is how Biliary Atresia Liver Care Africa (BALCA) came to life — not just as an organization, but as a community of hope.
Today, BALCA stands for every child who deserves an early diagnosis. For every family who needs information, comfort, and support. For every parent who dreams of a healthy future for their little one.
We exist to raise awareness, connect families, advocate for better healthcare, and remind the world that children with biliary atresia are not forgotten — their lives matter.
