BILIARY ATRESIA LIVER CARE AFRICA (BALCA)
Wanyika Karanja is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Biliary Atresia and Liver Care Africa (BALCA), an organization dedicated to raising awareness, supporting families, and advocating for children affected by biliary atresia and liver-related conditions across Africa.
Her journey into this mission began as a parent navigating the challenges of biliary atresia firsthand. What started as a deeply personal experience has since grown into a lifelong commitment to ensuring that no family walks this journey alone.
With a background in administration, operations, and community service, Wanyika brings a blend of professional expertise and heartfelt advocacy to BALCA. She works to build partnerships with healthcare institutions, NGOs, and policymakers to expand access to early diagnosis, treatment, and support for affected children.
Passionate about creating change, Wanyika envisions a future where liver health is prioritized in Africa, awareness is widespread, and children born with biliary atresia have better chances of survival and quality of life.

Dr. John Makokha is an experienced business management expert with over 12 years of work in project management, strategy, M&E, and fundraising across Africa. He has a PhD in Strategic Management, an MBA, and a BSc in Agricultural Economics. He previously worked for World Vision, Africa Agriculture Technology Foundation, and CORAT Africa. He owns fayotaltd, a consultancy firm in business planning, entrepreneurship training, resource mobilization, and capacity building.
Moses Mwangi is a communication specialist and creative professional with a background in corporate communication, multimedia design, and pedagogy. He has a Master’s in Corporate Communication and a bachelor’s degree. He has lectured at St. Paul’s University and USIU-A and created branding and visual storytelling for organizations across East Africa. His blend of strategic thinking and artistic flair makes him versatile.
